Gordon Vars Born February 10, 1923 In 1941, went into Basic Training for the army. In 1946 completed an independent study which showed that very little of the very little of the innovative curricula that was once brought about by the Progressive Education Association was still being implemented. Shortly after 1948, he enrolled at Ohio State University to receive his Master's of Science Education. In 1949 he graduated and became a core teacher at Bel-Air Junior and Senior High School. In 1953 worked on initiative to create the National Middle School Association. Throughout the '60's, '70's, and '80s he became one of the most respected leaders in the middle school education. February 2, 2012 Gordon Vars, a legacy to the middle school philosophy, passed away.
